Question

I want to clean residential homes located through real estate companies. I have never priced house cleaning. How do I charge?

Answer

Depending on the labor rate for your area, your total expenses, and desired profit, it is common to see hourly billing rates at $20-$30 an hour. A make-ready process can take 6-14 hours to clean a home, depending upon the size, condition, and required cleaning standards. Average homes in the 2,400 square foot range often require eight man-hours.
Once you have cleaned a few, you will be able to bid by the room or square foot - especially after you experience the soil load, learn your own production rates, and adjust to customer expectations.
