Question

My company is looking at Certification in Mold Remediaiton. Do you know where I can go to have our guys certified in this. Do you know if this is at a state by state basis or is it nationwide?

Answer

There are many companies, associations and groups that offer mold and IAQ training and certification programs. Being mold remediation is relatively new field there is no one recognized national standard as to quality, value, and recognition of training programs or certification or for mold remediation procedures. Each course and it's value and content can and does vary greatly. To avoid wasting your money or not getting what you need, do your homework up front before signing on the dotted line or paying any fees up front. Be aware that there are a number of flakes floating around the industry right now that are trying to make a fast buck off of all the media hype, public concern and contractor's eagar to get into the mold business because they think it's the next gold rush.
One of the issues and concerns is who's certifying the certifiers? Here are some sources that I am aware of, but I can't tell you which one is best or how well the program or any certifications offered will be recognized by other groups, state agencies or your customers. I would suggest that any courses you take be at least 70% hands on verses class room lectures.
