| We have two different accounts, each with its own problem.
Problem #1...The tile floor around the entry mats is browned and dirty looking. It is as if it is embedded in the tile. Is there something to use to make this part of the floor look like the tile under the mats?
Problem #2...The linoleum has yellowed around the rugs of one of our clients. The linoleum is of residential grade and I have tried to get the yellow out. Is there something else I can do?

Answer: The question to answer in both problems is, “Is the discoloration within the topical floor finish or in the floor covering itself?” To find the answer, the floor has to be stripped of all floor finish and sealers. If the discoloration goes away, then simply rinse and recoat. If the discoloration remains after all coatings have been stripped off, then the problem may be permanent since it is in the floor covering itself. It may be chemical staining from the backing of the matting or carpets used. Sometimes yellowing can occur in resilient floors that are next to glued down carpet, and is caused from adhesive from the edge of the carpet bleeding out due to sloppy installation clean up. If this is the case, try using a non-volatile solvent like "Goof-Off" and /or a razor scraper. Always test first any chemical cleaner in a corner or obscure area to ensure that it does not harm the floor. Glen Franklin Franklin Floor Care Floorfacts@peoplepc.com |
