Answer # 1:
To remove sand from a rug or carpet you want a vacuum cleaner with a heavy-duty brush and a lot of air movement. My experience has been that a pile lifter type vacuum is the most effective and durable equipment for removing sand from carpeting. There are only a couple companies left that make this type of equipment.
