| How do I clean a raised computer room floor (vinyl cover of pressboard) that can not be wet mopped or the vinyl will pop out? It’s hollow underneath.

Answer: These floors are installed to allow for air conditioning and so wiring can be easily run in the space under the floor where it is protected and out of sight. The vinyl will respond to damp mopping without a problem. You can use a mildly abrasive wet scrub pad on a hand-held holder to remove stubborn marks. What must be avoided is flood mopping or machine scrubbing where solution is placed on the floor in such a volume that it would run between the tiles and into the space below possibly saturating the pressboard backing and the wires below. Not all such flooring uses pressboard as a backing, some are aluminum. The small amount of moisture used in light damp mopping (mop is well wrung out and not dripping) will not cause the vinyl to delaminate from the pressboard or the moisture to penetrate between the tiles. In truth, water or beverage spills that happened to get down into the cavity below would seldom cause a problem beyond the obvious mess. Unless of course they come in contact with a connection and short out the system, in which case there would be a big problem. In this environment, safe is always better than sorry. The wiring is insulated, not open bus bars. The tile panels themselves can be picked up with a suction cup device allowing access to clean below the floor panels and supporting framework. Lynn E.
