| I have a janitorial business and I need to know how to bid and
charge on this 1500 sq. ft. grocery store. The store has to be dusted, and the floor stripped, refinished, and buffed. This is a two man job, a 2-day a week service. How much do I need to
charge them for this job per month?

A store with only 1,500 square feet should take 2 men only 45 minutes to move small fixtures, dust mop, wet mop, propane burnish, and then complete a final dust mopping. Add 20% if you’re using a 20" electric burnisher. Scrubbing and applying a top coat will probably be required monthly and should take about 2 hours with a 20" machine and wet vac, followed by applying 2 coats of finish. Stripping will probably be required semi-annually and take 3 hours or more. Add 20% more labor if the store is 24/7 and you have to tape off isles. Floor maintenance frequencies depend on the volume of foot traffic, use of adequate walk-off mats, parking lot maintenance, durability of the floor finish, and whether they dust mop twice a day to remove grit. If your objective is $60 an hour then that comes out to $1 a minute. If your objective is $100 an hour or more for a 2-man crew, then you can do the math. The other pricing consideration is if your competitors are pricing way below or above this, and if they are providing a quality service that keeps satisfied customers.
