| With a budget of $2200-$2600, what portable extractor and/or powerhead might you suggest we look at? I know this is rock bottom pricing, but if possible, could you give me any ideas? We are cleaning commercial glue down (70%). |

Answer#1: A good overall machine would be a self-contained extractor, perhaps 9-12 gallons with a power-head brush. Ask your local dealer or JanSan Distributor if you can rent or use a demo unit to see if it fits your needs. A self-contained unit delivers faster cleaning times than a wand unit. The key to good soil release is applying a premium pre-spray to the carpet prior to extraction. On heavy soil, you can go over the area with only the brush on, to provide agitation prior to your rinse. Many units have a hose and wand connection for working behind desks, etc. If hot water is unavailable in a building, you can always add an auxiliary heater unit, or use a bucket heater for each 5 gals. There are other approaches that would provide additional benefits, but at a cost that exceeds your budget. For example, high flow extractors, extractors with auto fill/pump out, and heated units with rotary extraction devices are nice options, but more expensive. Gary Clipperton National Pro Clean Corp. Answer #2: All of us are budget conscious. Keep your eyes open for used units that may offer good value for less money than new. Ask your local suppliers about these and demos, watch the “for sale” ads and auctions, (I once bought a used wand-type commercial machine for under $400) in local papers and in trade magazines, ask around any building that has gone from in-house to contract. Often, perfectly good cleaning equipment is available for little cost, and some badly needed cleaning will put it back into working order rather quickly. Lynn E.
