Question

Can anyone recommend a good place to start looking for commercial cleaning bids in the Cleveland area? I am bonded and insured. I have had a couple of residential cleaning customers, but I am not having any luck with the commercial side of the business. I don't know where to begin looking for open bids, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

Forget the open bids and look for buildings that need a good cleaning service (the dirty ones) and are the size that you can handle and at locations you can service without a lot of running around.
To start, you will be doing all the work on a route, driving from one location to the next, so you want to stay compact.
Take a business card and walk into the facility.Ask to speak with whomever handles facility maintenance so you can tell this person of your interest in providing a custodial service to them.
See if you can get them to authorize a survey of the spaces you are needed for so you can measure and work up a proposal.
Go after only dirty places. Don't try to under price someone who is doing a good job. There are needs out there. Find them by investigation and offer to fill them.
