Question

I am looking for some help on how to clean and maintain horizontal blinds. We just got a bank to clean that has tall windows with black blinds in each office.

Answer

You can use a treated dust cloth or micro fiber cloth and a step ladder, if necessary, to dust them in place. A lambís wool duster with a handle may avoid the use of a ladder. Open and close them as needed to reach all surfaces.
Damp wiping by hand is done much the same way. Always buff dry with a clean towel to avoid streaks. Vacuuming is often useful with a dusting brush attachment on the wand. Complete washing requires removal from the window and, after marking the blind in some manner to note its location, taking it to an area for washing by hand or with light pressure. Ultra-sonic equipment is also available, and if the blinds require a major soil removal operation it may be wise to find someone in the area using this technology. It is very quick and effective, and gets all of the slats, cords, and tapes clean.
