| We have a problem with alcohol-based hand sanitizers eating through floor finish and leaving a white stain where it drips from the dispenser or is dropped on the floor. Is there any way to remove this damage?

Answer #1: Normally the "bite" from these types of products is not irreversible. You would clean thoroughly, spray with buffing compound or restorer, burnish with high-speed pad/machine, dust mop, and apply a very light coat of finish. If you only have one or two small spots, you can clean with green nylon pad and touch up with floor finish applied with a paper towel. If the solution has penetrated several coats of finish, you will need to reapply finish with the towel until the shine is restored. If repairs are frequent, leave your floor finish application mop in an airtight trash bag. Transport it to each area as needed. Often the mop will not require added finish. The goal is to apply small amounts of finish so a buildup does not occur. If all else fails, place a small walk off mat (2X3) under the dispensers. Gary Clipperton National Pro Clean Corp. Answer #2: You may wish to consider using a water-based sanitizer. The alcohol-based products not only attack floor finish, but can also have a drying effect on your hands / skin with repeated, frequent use. Water-based sanitizers (foaming or not foaming) do not attack the finish and generally have less negative impact on skin with frequent use. Foaming sanitizers (and foaming hand soaps) have an additional advantage in potential cost savings as they typically allow the user to effectively wash their hands with less product. Because they dispense a foam into your hand, they also have less propensity to result in drips and spills on the floor.
